Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Today’s theme is all about books and songs. I’ll admit, I’m one of those people who don’t really understand the correlation between the two. And heaven forbid if an author tries to capitalize on a song. It’s cheesy and in my mind, it dates the book and weakens the appeal. When you create literature, you should want it to be something that can be read throughout the years. But, that being said, I am huge music lover and I love nothing more than to sing along with the radio all day long. So I’ll give this topic a try.
“Drink You Away” by Justin Timberlake
I could see this particular song being the inspiration for a book where the guy is nice and discovers his girlfriend isn’t what he thought. Actually, I can see it more as part of a movie. You know, one that’s like a modern day “Can’t Buy Me Love” where the geeky guy goes from geek to chic. But of course, after a girl breaks his heart somehow.
“When We Were Young” by Adele
I find this song to be inspiring in a more romantic way. As for a story, I could see it being about a guy and girl, maybe who knew each other their entire lives and though they are fated to be, somewhere along the tracks they find their own paths. Now, it’s years later and maybe after a divorce or losing a spouse, one of them returns to their hometown and they find their way back to one another.
“Stressed Out” by Twenty One Pilots
I could see this being the inspiration of a coming of age story about a group of friends. Perhaps they wouldn’t be the most guys in their school, but they are there for one another and would endure the end of their childhood together.
“Out of the Woods” by Taylor Swift
This may seem a bit cliche, but I guess if there’s one thing Taylor Swift does is great fantasy/fairy tale inspired videos. But I wouldn’t make the fairy tale about a romance. Instead I would make it about a set of siblings (doesn’t really matter if it’s two sisters, two brothers or one of each) and their journey to overcome their circumstances in hopes of finding their happily ever after. Maybe for them, that would involve finding their parents or a family for themselves.
“Irresistible” by Fall Out Boys featuring Demi Lovato
Honestly, I could see this one going one of two ways based off of the lyrics. Either for a story about a bad for you type of relationship. You know the type I’m talking about. Not necessarily an abusive relationship, but maybe he screws around or drinks too much kind. Or I could see it totally working for a BDSM story.
Last but not least, I can’t resist posting this video. My son and I always cycle through newer songs that are very dance-able and this is our new “jam.” I doubt I could really envision a story that could along with this one, but it’s fun and I love dancing along to this.
“Get Ugly” by Jason Derulo
Anyways, that’s all I have for today folks! At least I warned you I wasn’t very inspired by music when it came to linking it with books. But I tried and I hope that’s good enough. Can’t wait to see what you all have listed today!
