Stacking the Shelves #3: December’s Book Box

I know it must seem like I have ordered a ton of books from Scholastic in the past few weeks.  I have purchased a lot over the past few months, but sadly my busy schedule has left me too busy to unpack some of the boxes.  It’s only been two weeks since I unpacked my November order and I already have my December order.

I hadn’t originally planned on ordering more books this month.  However, I want to finish rounding off some of my collections and decided to take advantage of some of the deals they had for the Scholastic Book Club.

In November, I received my order of the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.  This month I scored the complete collection of Rick Riordan’s The Heroes of Olympus.  I’ve read all of these books before, but I really love the way Riordan created a fictional universe that featured some of my favorite mythological gods and goddesses.  I’ve always loved mythology and I feel like these series can serve to help children and young adults become interested in the beliefs or ancient cultures.  I know, I know.  I’m a history nerd.  Don’t rub it in.

I also decided to snag the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard trilogy by Rick Riordan.  As I mentioned in last week’s To Be Read Thursday post, I have never read any of the Riordan series outside those that featured Percy Jackson and the Greek and Roman gods/goddesses.  It’s my hope to begin some of these other series with my own son over the next few months.  I really want him to expand his reading preferences.

As a child of the 90’s, I grew up with the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine.  Even as an adult, I take time to try and catch the latest books on Netgally if I get the chance.  Scholastic had a deal where I could get 14 books for a fairly decent price and I found that I couldn’t resist.  There’s no explanation needed for these books.  With the renewed interest in the series after the movie two years ago, these books will be a hot commodity in my future classroom.

The last books in my order are a variety of books that were on sale.  I snagged a new Goosebumps book featuring the series’ most iconic character, Slappy.  Holes is a classic and although my son has seen the movie, he’s never read the book.  The rest were just random books that caught my eye or happened to come in a pack with something else I wanted.

Here’s a list of everything I received in my December book order:

  • The Heroes of Olympus #1: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
